Linda Wykes joined Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary in 2001. One of the first women to join our
club, she was already well known to it as the go-to person for printing and graphic design. That
role has continued over the years but it belies the many other contributions she has made to
the club and to the community at large during that time.

Rotarian Linda’s name has become synonymous with Riverside Press and The Review. The latter
is a voice for many community members as well as a valued source of information about what’s
going on in our community following the closure of the town’s newspaper. Not one to speak
publicly or “toot her own horn”, it was through a single one liner in the town’s News and
Notices section of The Review that members of the club became aware that Rotarian Linda had
been awarded The Blue Mountains Community Builder Award (age 26+) in April of this year.
Cathy Smart, another well known name in the community, quietly nominated Linda. To quote
the town’s award criteria, “This award recognizes local champions who build communities and
show us all what can be achieved with passion and determination.”

In addition to running a business and being a member of T-C Rotary, Rotarian Linda was a:
  • Board member for Marsh Street Centre for 3 years (2002 – 2005) and was its first administrator,
  • member of the Blue Mountains Chamber of Commerce from 2002 to 2013,
  • advocate and volunteer for the North East Grey Health Clinics from 2012-2015,
  • volunteer for Community Connection 211 for 6 years from 2011 to 2017,
  • part of the TBM Grants and Donations Team - 2019/2022,
  • organizer of Thornbury Jazzworks - 2023/2024 and
  • champion of Community Foundation Grey Bruce from 2012 to 2024.
Rotarians have known for many years that if you wanted to know what was going on in our
town, all you had to do was ask Linda. This list of volunteer projects shows why.  And those who
have known her know how determined and passionate about ideas she is.

Thank you, Rotarian Linda for all that you do, and congratulations for a much deserved honour!
