Barn Addition at Hincks Dellcrest Farm
In 2005, it came to the attention of our Rotary Club that the barn at the Hincks Dellcrest Farm outside town really needed a small addition that would house a secure feed storage area AND provide a easier, safer entrance to the barn for residents and staff alike. With the support of Jeremy Wentworth-Stanley, Branch Manager at CIBC Wood Gundy World Markets in Owen Sound, we were able to contribute $10,000 of the club's CIBC Wood Gundy Christmas Miracle funds toward this project.
Part of the program at this residential treatment facility for at risk youth involves farm work and chores. The new addition will make that work much safer and easier.
The photos above show the project in progress. Duncan McKinlay, the Farm staff person most involved with the project, recently gave a small group of Rotarians a tour of the new addition. Also seen in the group photo is Jeremy Wentworth-Stanley who facilitated the donation of Christmas Miracle funds through Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary to the treatment facility.
It's another project that will make a difference -- in many lives!
It's a start...
T-C Rotary's first look at the progress on the project was on a very snowy day! At this point, the floor was complete and the walls were beginning to go up.
All closed in and moving along...
Months later, on another visit to Hincks Farm, Duncan McKinlay took the group on a tour of the facility as it neared completion. The new entrance/feed storage area provides a new, safer way for the students to get into the barn to do their chores. Obviously, it also provides a safe, rodent-free feed storage area! Here, Duncan explains the water system to (l to r) Rotarian Terry Blackman, Jeremy Wentworth-Stanley of CIBC Wood Gundy, and Rotarian Bill Robbins.
Safe passage to the animal stalls...
Duncan explains how the new arrangement will allow students easy and safe access to animal stalls and feeding areas.
A very positive outcome!
At the end of the tour, the group stops for the Official Photo. Thanks to excellent cooperation and communication, another successful project is nearly complete!
