GSE Team to Australia

Spring 2007 saw Cindy Welsh, a policy planner for The Town of The Blue Mountains, join the District 6330 GSE Team on its visit to District 9670 in New South Wales, Australia.

"Through the Rotary Foundation's GSE Program I was be able to gain international experience in my chosen vocation of land use planning and be part of a team in doing so. The cultural part of the GSE was also very important to me. Being about to understand how culture and vocation come together in another part of the world was one of the main reasons I applied to the GSE Program. I also liked the fact that I was able to stay with seven host Rotarian families and gain a better understanding of how the Aussies live. I was so impressed by Rotary that upon my return from OZ I was asked to join the Rotary Club of Thornbury-Clarksburg and was inducted on June 28, 2007."

Kindred spirits...
We met the Mayor of the Singleton Shire Council, Fred Harvison, at a reception held in our honour. We were presented with the Shire's crest and later that night I had the privilege of having dinner with Mr. John Flannery, retired Shire Manager and designer of the crest. The crest is presently hanging in my office to remind me of the binds that tie both Australian and Canadian municipal work.
