Regular Meeting -- Jim McKane, speaker
Thursday, September 14, 2017 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Location: St. George's Anglican Church Clarksburg
Our regular meeting at St. George's this evening will include our guest speaker, Jim McKane, shown here showing off a sea lamprey to a youngster visiting the Great Lakes Fishery Commission booth at last week's Salmon Spectacular derby in Owen Sound.
Jim is a commissioner on the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and has become an expert in the issues surrounding the sea lamprey problem -- their biology and the control measures needed to limit the damage they do. He will speak tonight about the Great Lakes Fishery and the impact that sea lampreys have had on it.
Jim was born and raised on a farm near Brampton and farmed with his Dad before leaving the farm to go into the credit business for over 20 years. He spent 40 years of his life in Kitchener-Waterloo the last 20 years of which he was an independent financial advisor.
After his retirement, he and his wife, Suzanne, moved to their summer home on the north shore of Colpoys Bay in 2008.
Since childhood, he has maintained a keen interest and active role in fishing and hunting. He has belonged to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters for many years as well as the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmens’ Club where he takes an active role in their activities including the fish stocking program.
He was appointed as one of four Canadian Commissioners to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission in 2013.
This promises to be another interesting meeting! Might be a great meeting to bring a friend or neighbour!!
